Ample Harvest - Connecting home gardeners with local food pantries around the country.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters - Serving children ages 5 through 18 with mentors in professionally supported one-to-one relationships. Click on the link for the local Morris/Passaic/Bergen Chapter. Camp Shalom - Offering a very special opportunity for multiply handicapped and developmentally delayed children and young adults to take part in a wonderful day camp experience. Under the supervision of professional staff, campers participate in activities that include physical and aquatics instruction, music and art therapy, weekly group sessions of therapeutic riding/horsemanship, and special events. Camp YDP- Provides both after-school and summer camp programs from it's Northside neighborhood facility in Paterson. CUMAC- Feeding people and changing lives. CUMAC works to alleviate hunger and its root causes for those in need in Paterson, Passaic County and northern New Jersey. Community Hospice of Bergen County - A not-for-profit Hospice startup in the Pascack Valley area dedicated to providing the best palliative care available. Family Promise of Bergen County - Formerly The InterReligious Fellowship for the Homeless (IRF) Family Promise is the ONLY organization in Bergen County helping working homeless families to overcome personal crisis and return to self sufficiency. The Family Promise Network is an opportunity for volunteers of all ages and walks of life to reduce homelessness and transform lives. Foodtidings - A free on-line service which helps to organize food delivery to those in life transitions. Sign up, create a calendar, invite friends to participate. No need to endlessly maintain lists or remind volunteers; Foodtidings even sends e-mail reminders. Footprints in the Sand Foundation - Their mission to serve children in need. By creating, supporting, & locating programs that directly benefit the health & well being of children affected by illness or death, the Foundation is working to better the lives of children & their families. Habitat For Humanity (Bergen County) Helping Hand Food Pantry - Located in the Hillsdale United Methodist Church, Helping Hand provides basic foods/staples to our neighbors in need here in the Pascack Valley area. Knights of Columbus Warm Clothing Drive - St. Thomas More Council 2188 runs an annual warm clothing drive, from December through mid-February. The items can be dropped off at 40 Crest St., Westwood or by contacting Frank Bonanno, Chairman of the event, at 201-666-9035. LEWA - Educational Program is designed to provide local children with educational opportunities, and to build awareness of wildlife conservation in Kenya. The holistic approach covers every aspect to offer the best possible education: infrastructure, curriculum including conservation education, a feeding programme, bursaries, and adult literacy. NJ Buddies - Opening in 1985, this non-profit, community-based organization offers a network of support for people infected and affected with HIV/AIDS. Services include case management, substance abuse treatment and counseling, housing assistance, dental services, support groups, transportation and a food bank. Pascack Valley Meals on Wheels - Providing meals to people in northern Bergen County who are unable to shop or cook for themselves due to age or disability. Pascack Mental Health Center - A not for profit behavioral health agency serving the community since 1971, offering professional help for a broad range of emotional difficulties that can impair relationships and hamper individual functioning. |
SEARCH for Christian Maturity - For late high school/early college teens and young adults, SEARCH enables youth to explore their faith in a safe, supportive environment through a weekend retreat experience and followup "Fourth Day" reunions.
Shelter Our Sisters - Assisting women and children who are victims of domestic violence, including emotional, economic, sexual and physical abuse. SOS provides emergency and transitional housing, emotional support, and a diversified continuum of services focused on safety, empowerment, and self-sufficiency. Spectrum for Living - From the beginning Spectrum was guided by one principle, that people with developmental disabilities have the same right as anyone else to experience a fulfilling and meaningful life. At Spectrum, people with disabilities are respected as individuals and given the freedom, responsibility and opportunity to face and meet life’s challenges. Spectrum for Living provides the physical and emotional support that every individual needs to achieve their full potential. Thomas J. Riley Senior Center - Located in Westwood House, a senior living facility, the Riley Center provides services designed to meet the physical & social needs of seniors which includes a 5-day a week hot lunch and activities for the health and well-being of senior clients. Truth in Progress - What would it look like if we could openly discuss our differences in a forum which promotes dignity, respect and honesty? Two people from vastly different backgrounds, one a retired, straight African-American pastor, the other a younger, white lesbian professional, discuss their journeys and invite us into their conversations. Tyron D. Franklin Technology Center - Located behind the Lebanon Baptist Church on High Street in Westwood, NJ, the Technology Center seeks to empower all learners with computer literacy courses for all ages and an after school drop in center tailored to those students who may not have internet access available to them at home. United Methodist Committee on Relief - For the benefit of the peoples of Haiti. 100% of our donation goes directly to help the people of Haiti through UMCOR's practice of underwriting all administrative expenses. Volunteer Center of Bergen County - Working with more than 500 private and public non-profit agencies in and around Bergen County and maintaining a database with hundreds of volunteer opportunities suitable for individuals and groups of every description, the Volunteer Center of Bergen County acts as a clearing house of sorts to match volunteers with opportunities. Wounded Warrior - Run by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8936, this program is an ongoing outreach to wounded military personnel at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C. and the Naval Medical Center at Bethesda, MD. A contingent from the post visits these medical centers three times a year on average, delivering personal care and other items requested by soldiers and Marines. William Huston, quartermaster of the post, said “Members of all branches of the service who require major surgery and rehabilitation make use of those facilities especially those men and women who have suffered horrific wounds in Iran and Afghanistan.
